Radio Kwizera is a regional radio run by the Jesuit Fathers of East Africa. It was established
in 1995 by the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in collaboration with The United Nations High
Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Catholic Diocese of Rulenge-Ngara as a podium for
exchange of information between the refugees and organizations and governments working with
them. The radio’s coverage area has increased in the recent past to include areas of Western
Tanzania, parts of Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with an
approximate population of ….million people. Within these areas, the radio has been remarkably
known for its search, creation, defense and promotion of a culture of peace as well as enhancing
individual and collective initiatives in development.
Our sponsors/collaborators/clientele includes UNHCR, UNICEF, HakiElimu, PSI-Tanzania,
government of Tanzania and other NGO’s. Our special mandate in promoting human
development has seen the radio together with these organizations collaborate in the
dissemination of information on various spheres such as health and sanitation, agriculture and
conservation, education and advocacy, as well as human rights.
We also attract private companies that are keen in reaching and expanding their East African
clients through promotional/advertisements of their products. These companies include Zain,
Eveready Co., and Vodacom. Our commitment to openness in collaboration with companies that
share and commit themselves human values and seek to enhance development as we make use
of recent technological advancement to reach our goals.
